BUSTED: Things are changing and there are plenty of options and funding opportunities. One of the best sources of information for funding is your university librarian. Our editors are also happy to help and answer any questions about funding that you may have. We offer waivers and discounts on the Book Publishing Charges for authors with primary affiliations based in countries defined by the World Bank as Low- or Lower-Middle Income Economies. It’s always worth discussing with your editor any options there might be for funding.
Possible avenues for funding for Open Access publications include:
Depending on your proposal and your research opportunities, your institution may be willing to fund your publication, or at least some of the expense. An announcement by Research England stated that Research Excellence Framework assessments would extend their Open Access requirements to include longer scholarly works and monographs, however the funding will need to be found by institutions. Funding can also be sourced from collectives like the Wellcome Trust, who want to see more publishers and institutions working together to reallocate funding for Open Access work.
Open Access Funding Information
The charges for publishing Open Access with Taylor & Francis start from £10,000/$13,000, plus any applicable taxes. Authors also have the option to publish in various book formats or individual chapters. The charge is calculated based on the revenue usually received which would cover the usual costs involved in the publishing process, including editorial, production, marketing and sales distribution. We are committed to making Open Access available to as many researchers as possible.
Should the worst happen during your publication process and your funding were to fall through before submission, we would discuss the best available options for you but generally would proceed with the book in the usual way for a non-Open Access title. There are always options available.
